LAS-1205 Nature of Work: Work as Meaning
An explanation of work and career at both a big-picture, lifelong level, and in very practical skills-oriented ways. The course will begin with basic skills and definitions: the difference between a vocation and a job, the importance of self-examination, and financial literacy. Then the rest of the semester will alternate among these three registers: exploring specific majors and careers, learning and rehearsing job-search skills, and elaborating on the ways that work can be meaningful and an expression of personal identity. Course assignments will include informal writing, in-class presentations, job-search skills practice and a long-term work plan.
