ENG-2007 World Literature
Because "World Literature" is an impossibly broad course description, this course is structured around imperialism. The course is split into four units-four sites of sustained European imperial attention: "the Middle East," "Far East," "Africa," and "the Americas." For each, we'll first read Europeans or Americans imagining that 'exotic' place. Then we'll read recent autors from that place, a sort of response.
