RES-2000 Scientific Research
The purpose of RES courses is to enhance the student's academic experience by engaging in the scientific method. RES 2000 will familiarize a student with the processes of the scientific
method by having them work with a primary investigator and design their own independent research project. Students will complete a literature review, conduct any necessary preliminary experimental trials and complete a project proposal. Students working with humans and/or animals in any studies will be required to submit the appropriate paperwork to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and/or Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). After receiving approval students will conduct experimental trials, collect data, perform statistical analysis and write a final manuscript summarizing the study. Research advisors may require a poster or oral presentation as part of the course requirement. An application to conduct the research project must be filled out and signed by the student, research advisor, academic advisor, and chair/dean.
