Grading Policy for Graduate Studies
Students enrolled in a graduate degree program, masters or doctoral, must maintain good academic standing to continue in their respective program of study. Graduate students are required to have a GPA of 3.0 in order to receive a degree. The academic standing and grading policy for each graduate program is listed under that department. A graduate student who has received a grade of C may request permission to repeat the course one time from the Program Director. (The student is not required to make such an appeal; however, in some cases, it will be necessary for a student to raise the grade for certification or licensure requirements, or to obtain the 3.0 GPA necessary for graduation.) Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis. No grades of D will be given (anything lower than a C- is an F). A grade of F will result in dismissal from the program.
If a student repeats a course in which a grade of C has been received, both the original grade and the repeated grade will count in the GPA. Both grades will also be used to determine eligibility to stay in or to be removed from the program.
