Attendance Policy

Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes.  Attendance during the first week of classes is particularly important.  If a student is deemed not in attendance or not engaged in a class during that first week they will be administratively withdrawn from that class.  This may impact tuition and financial aid.

Students who find it necessary to be absent from class should inform the instructor in advance of the absence when possible. The attendance policy must be stated in the syllabus.  Students may be administratively withdrawn from a class for non-attendance during that first week or for excessive absences if it is stated in the course syllabus that this is a consequence. Students who are administratively withdrawn from a class may, within five business days from the date of the withdrawal, file an appeal with the Dean of Academic Success and Advising. The Dean will work in consultation with the student, faculty person and other appropriate departments to determine if the appeal will be granted. The decision of the Dean is final. Note: Online –The requirements to be considered present for an online class will be different from class to class and those requirements will be listed in the course syllabus. Not meeting the attendance requirement will result in an absence from that online class. In all cases, attendance will involve active participation in the online learning management system(s) used by the professor and not simply logging in.
