HIS-3020 The Crusades
This course is designed to provide a background in both European and Middle East cultures in the Middle Ages. Students learn about religious beliefs, political maneuvers, and complex international alliances as well as medieval warfare. In order to better understand the mindset of Medieval people who fought horrific wars in the name of religions, students engage in an extensive role playing game. As tensions between religious groups is once again on the rise, understanding the capacity of people to do horrible things in the name of their faith is essential. Students will be asked to really
understand perspectives from that time, as well as to develop their own responses to such questions.
