Civic Engagement
Civic Engagement at Centenary University encourages students to share their time and talents to make a meaningful difference. Civic Engagement is a powerful form of experiential learning because it allows students to apply their knowledge and experience to real world community issues. The goal is to help students build a lifelong habit of active, informed, and constructive participation in their communities. Students are challenged to think critically, act compassionately, and lead responsibly as they create positive change in the world around them.
Through intentional opportunities on campus, in the Skylands region, and across state, national, and global communities, students engage in purposeful work with defined populations and goals. Civic engagement can take many forms, including leadership roles, political involvement, activism, environmentalism, education, community service, advocacy, volunteering, and service learning.
Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) are encouraged to partner with off-campus community organizations. These partnerships offer students real-world experience, help build professional networks and allow them to apply classroom learning to community impact. For community organizations, partnering with students brings fresh perspectives, energetic volunteers, and the opportunity to cultivate future leaders.
