Academic Foundations- 8 credits
Incoming Centenary students take three courses that focus on the excitement and quality of their transition to Centenary. These courses are all "foundational": they prepare students to become better students, citizens, and thinkers, while also demonstrating how to plan a career while caring for body and mind.
“Nature of Work” (2 credits) immerses students in the culture of their major and career. From the very start of their Centenary experience, students focus on the "real world" of jobs and economic stability. Students learn to think pragmatically about careers in their field, while developing practical skills like resume-writing and interviewing.
“Wellness” (2 credits) means productivity and success: Centenary wants students to be the best, happiest version of themselves. This class explores a variety of ways to achieve wellness. The main assignment is to create a long-term, personalized wellness plan.
“Broad, Enduring Interest” (4 credits) Most incoming students have heard about the difficulty of university classes. But Centenary classes are also very exciting and inspiring. This class is about inviting you to think as we do at a university—broadly, courageously, and in the real world. Each section of this course focuses on some issue of immediate relevance from a variety of disciplinary perspectives, and is dedicated to the proposition, thinking well may save the world—and make your life a lot more interesting too!
