GED-644 Supervised Practicum in Reading Case Studies
This is the capstone course for the Master of Education in Literacy Instruction program. This course is designed to provide students with a field-based learning opportunity. The course is a three-week summer field experience totaling 45-60 hours, under the guidance of certified Reading Specialists in a public school setting. Students will meet each scheduled day to discuss the phases of the Reading Specialist's work. The student will assume teaching responsibilities for various instructional groups. The practicum student will be supervised by certified Reading Specialists as they work with children in one-on-one or small groups settings. Students will complete an in-depth, clinical case study. This case study will provide opportunities to plan and administer assessments, interpret results, and plan instruction based upon research-based best practices in literacy instruction related to individual students' needs.
